Best Destination Wedding Resorts in the Dominican Republic

Updated: Sep 8

After spending another week in the Dominican Republic inspecting resorts and wedding venues, I am leaving this beautiful island with more great options for destination wedding brides.

The island has several areas less prone to sarcasm during those warm summer months. I can promise you that there is not one wedding couple looking for sargasm-covered beaches for their pictures. So, let’s focus on those places that tend to have beautiful beaches year around.

A few of my personal favorites for weddings:

Hyatt Ziva / Zilara, Cap Cana

There are many excellent qualities about this beautiful resort that offers both adult-only and family-friendly sections. For example, the Cap Cana area is convenient to the Punta Cana International Airport, making it a great location, especially for those with longer flights. In addition, Hyatt offers various wedding locations to choose accommodating groups of all sizes. The beach is powdery white sand and provides ample room for events if you’re looking for “toes-in-the-sand.” The resort boasts activities and entertainment for those of all ages.

Hilton LaRoma, La Roma

The well-laid family-friendly resort with an adult-only section is located an hour from the airport. While the beach isn’t as deep as some in the DR, it is beautiful white sand with the bluest blue waters. The wedding gazebo is located with a backdrop of the ocean. With several pools on the property, along with a large water park, there is plenty to keep guests of all ages entertained. The lights that twinkle off the water at night are incredibly romantic at this property. The garden wedding space has ample room to accommodate larger crowds for your ceremony and reception.

Casa de Campo, La Roma

This is for a bride looking for unique accommodations and wedding venues. Alto de Chevron is a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village with a Catholic Church, making stunning wedding photos and a dreamy ceremony location. From backdrops overlooking the river to the beach, or gardens overlooking the ocean, venues for wedding locations are almost endless at Casa de Campo. Located about 1.5 hours from the airport, it does add some extra travel time, but the destination is worth it. CDC’s accommodation includes villas, 3-10 bedrooms, and hotel rooms. This 7000 acres community is gated, and activities such as skeet shooting, horseback riding, and tennis are included when an all-inclusive package is purchased.

Dreams Macao

A family-friendly resort with the option to upgrade to a preferred level, Dreams Macao is a mid-sized property that boasts 500 rooms and two-bedroom villas. A rooftop terrace that overlooks the beach and ocean accommodates 50 to a garden terrace accommodates 250. Several locations are available on the beach for ceremonies and receptions. Dreams Macao is north of the Punta Cana airport with over an hour of travel time. The resort also boasts a bowling alley, arcade, and zip line with a water park for the big and little people. Not all activities are included in the all-inclusive package.

Margaritaville, Cap Cana

The fun party vibe at Margaritaville is an excellent choice if you are looking for a beautiful beach, good food, close to the airport, and a family-friendly resort. Does this describe you? Then Margaritaville may be the perfect choice for you! With pool parties and live music at the Punch bar, there are places to enjoy yourself with a fun party vibe. However, if you want a day to recover or a quiet place to read and relax, Margaritaville also offers these spaces. The only resort with a brewery on the property, Landshark, offers excellent food and drinks. Margaritaville has a sky terrace for weddings in addition to beach ceremony locations. This resort provides pools (one area is adult-only) throughout the property with ample lounge chairs for everyone. It is refreshing to have lounge chairs in the early morning, not littered with shoes, books, and towels left unattended for hours.
