Travel to Riviera Maya during a Pandemic.

It's not easy to quarantine when you're accustomed to traveling frequently. So, when a group of friends asked me to plan a getaway to Mexico I was all in. I have to admit that I was a bit trepidatious leaving the country during a pandemic. I thought I would share my experience and the protocols put in place that helped alleviate my personal fears.

DFW Airport: Since there are fewer flights, there was plenty of space to social distance. In the lounge tables were spaced to give distance and the buffet line was open with an attendant to serve you.

Cancun Airport: Again, there was plenty of room in the new terminal to social distance. The only physical contact was handing off my passport and immigration papers to the agent. This was a hand off and retrieval only. As we walked through customs there was no button to nervously hit and wait for a green or red light. You simply walk through the terminal where an infra red camera was taking everyone's temperature. Officers were standing in the middle of a very wide aisle after you gathered your luggage and randomly asked passengers to place their luggage in the X-ray machine.

Transfer: Our driver had his mask on for the entire trip. Since we were a group of friends and would be spending the next nine days together dining and drinking together we all chose to not wear our masks. We happily drank our champagne.

Resort: Upon entry there was a team to completely fogged the vehicle. Once the vehicle was sanitized we were allowed to enter the resort. Once we arrived, upon exit we were greeted by staff all fully masked. They took our luggage and sanitized it while we sanitized our shoes and also had our temperature check. All the restaurants had tables spaced to socially distance and all employees wore masks.

Room: Our room as marked as being sanitize to ensure our personal comfort. Room service was very respectful and asked permission to enter and take care of setting up our meals.

Spa: Shoes were sanitized upon entry and temperature was taken before entry was granted.

Gym: Reservations were required to ensure social distancing was possible. Machines and equipment was sanitized after every guest.

I have zero complaints as to the manner in which staff conducted themselves, or how they constantly worked to ensure everything was sanitized to ensure our safety.
